What is a Unique Code?
The Unique Codes feature allows temporary access to a lock without requiring a user to first register an account. This feature is great for quickly providing someone with access to a lock. A Unique Code can be valid for a maximum of six months.
The code is able to be used on one device for any number of locks, and is intended for short-term or emergency use.
The Unique Code workflow is:
Enable Unique Codes on your account
Create a Unique Code
Share lock(s) to the Unique Code
Provide code for end user to use
Enable Unique Codes on your account
To use the Unique Codes feature, you first need to enable it in your account Settings.
Login to the LockVue web portal and select Settings from the left side menu
Change to the 'System' tab and tick the "Enable Unique Codes" box
Select 'Save Changes' to process the change
Create a Unique Code
Once you've enabled the Unique Codes feature, you can create Unique Codes to then use in providing temporary access.
Login to the LockVue web portal, select 'Unique Codes' from the left side menu
Select 'New Unique Code' from the top right of the page
Enter in an appropriate description to help you understand the purpose of the code, select an appropriate expiry date and hit 'Create'. Note, maximum six month validity.
You'll see your new code appear under the Active Unique Codes heading.
Sharing Access to a Unique Code
Once the unique code has been created, you will need to share access for the appropriate locks to that Unique Code. A quick summary is below. See Sharing and managing lock permissions for more detail.
Login to the LockVue web portal and navigate to the My Locks page.
Find and select the lock(s) that you would like to share and click Share at the top right of the page
Select Unique Code as the recipient and select the desired code from the dropdown list and click next and follow prompts. Note, if you haven't created any unique codes, this list will be empty and the maximum permission level is Maintenance.
Managing Unique Codes
Unique codes will automatically expire and become unusable at the time that you selected during creation. If you'd like to end access sooner you can do this by either revoking the lock permission for the code in question, or by deleting the Unique Code itself.
Revoke the permission is done on the 'Permissions' page. See LockVue - Sharing and managing lock permissions.
Deleting the code is done by clicking on the Bin icon next to the code in question on the Unique Codes page.
Unique Codes and the End User
Once a Unique Code has been created and a lock shared to it, you will need to make the relevant user aware of the code. You can provide to code to them in person, over the phone, via email or text, or however you wish. The end user will need to download and install the LockVue app and then simply select the Code Login option to gain access. See Using the LockVue mobile app.
